Project Story
Set along the Westlake Village lake, this home was surrounded by water and mountain views, yet felt disconnected from the outdoors. For the homeowner, the experience of living on the water never quite matched its setting, with dark, enclosed spaces limiting both natural light and the ability to fully enjoy the waterfront. What originally began as a desire for a larger kitchen and a more contemporary look quickly evolved into rethinking how the entire home could function and feel, transforming it into a true lakeside retreat.
From the outset, the design centered on bringing in more light and connection. Walls that once divided the kitchen and living areas were removed, allowing the space to breathe and reorient toward the view. The introduction of expansive sliding doors transformed the main level, bringing in natural light and creating a seamless relationship between the interior and the lake beyond.
Inside, the kitchen was reimagined as the focal point of daily life and gathering. Frameless white upper cabinetry pairs with horizontal grain oak lowers, creating contrast through material rather than excess. A quartz surface with soft veining anchors the space, while a large island with integrated seating invites connection and ease. Subtle pattern moments and layered textures add depth, shaping a contemporary aesthetic that feels both refined and approachable.
Beyond the kitchen, updates to the primary suite continue the story, introducing brighter finishes and thoughtful detailing that elevate the everyday experience. What was once a dated home now supports a more effortless way of living, where light moves freely, spaces feel connected, and hosting becomes natural. With the lake just beyond, the home now lives in step with its setting, offering a quieter, more intentional way to move through each day.
