Carrita Seaview
Malibu, California
Project Story
The original vision at Carrita Seaview was to replace an outdated kitchen, optimize ocean views with new decking and windows, update the mother-in-law suite, and add a new loft. However, everything changed on one historic day when the Woolsey Fire swept through Malibu in November 2018, leveling both the neighborhood and the remodel that was underway. In its place, a new vision for a custom home emerged, designed around the clients’ love for horses and the surrounding hillsides, framed by sweeping views of the Pacific Ocean.
From the exterior, the home reflects a refined take on modern farmhouse design, where white batten siding and a dark bronze metal roof create a sense of contrast and quiet structure against the landscape. The architecture feels grounded yet open, setting the tone for spaces that prioritize light, views, and a seamless flow throughout.
Inside, the layout was carefully reoriented to capture sweeping ocean views from nearly every room. The kitchen anchors the home with a chiseled-edge granite island, concrete-inspired surfaces, and layered textures that add depth without overwhelming the space. Tongue-and-groove detailing carries through the ceiling and custom hood, while subtle pattern moments bring balance and visual interest.
Expansive bi-fold doors open the home entirely to its surroundings, creating a natural extension to the wraparound decking beyond. Whether gathering outdoors, cooking with the ocean in view, or simply moving through the space day to day, the home is designed to feel effortless, inviting a slower pace and a deeper connection to its setting.
